Homemade Christmas Ideas

It seems that every year I say that i'm going to make as many Christmas gifts as I can, but I never do. I think that homemade gifts are the best! They have thought and time put into them, even if it's something as simple as hot cocoa mix in a little jar with a cute tag!

This year I followed through and found some really cute ideas for handmade gifts, and I want to share one with you all!

Life On Grace (which is an awesome and fun blog!) hosted a 12 Days of Handmade Christmas and on the first day Dish Mats were featured! I love, love these and so I set to work making some! They were really simple and turned out great!

I'll show you two of mine -- the two that have been delivered already, but be sure to check out the tutorial and some of the other ideas.

It would be great if you can tell us what your favorite homemade/handmade gift is--either to give or one that you've received. I still have a few people left on my list so I could probably use some more ideas!

How to find the deals on AMAZON.COM

So I've noticed a lot of bloggers posting some really great deals on various items from Amazon.com. But I love to find my own deals sometimes and for stuff I might actually want. So I figured out that when you go to www.amazon.com/topholidaydeals you will get a list of all the "lightning deals" on Amazon. For example, I just notice that Chris Tomlin's Christmas album "Glory in the Highest" is going to become a "lightning deal" in just 17 minutes. "Lightning deals" on Amazon sell out quickly, so you have to move fast once the deal becomes available.

Another great deal I noticed is for a few Girl Gourmet items. They usually sell for over $30 and right now (if you check the above link) you can find the cake decorator and cupcake decorator for just $9.99.

Let me know if you end up finding any great deals. I was completely dismayed when I saw the Thomas Spin & Fix train set for just $19.99 a few days ago. It usually retails for $49.99 and I thought I got a great deal on it when I paid $35 (and I price matched and had a coupon...all that work!) So it definitely pays to check out Amazon before spending any money elsewhere!!!

Target Deals Week of 12/06

I just got back from a very fun trip to TARGET!!! I'm just going to list my favorite deals:

*****Save $1/1 Motts 64 oz apple juice
Yahoo!!! This is a great coupon! And what makes it even better is that Motts Apple Juice is on sale this week for $1.89, so that makes a bottle of apple juice only 89cents!!! I was so upset that I only had one coupon with me!!!

Save $1/1 Swiss Miss Milk Chocolate Cocoa
Another AWESOME coupon!!! Swiss Miss is on sale right now for $1.02 a box!!! I think hot chocolate tastes even better when you pay $0.2 cents for a box of it!

Save $0.50/1 Hershey Kisses milk chocolate 12 oz & Save $1.00/2 Hershey Kisses
I used (2) -$0.50 Target coupons, (1) -$1.00/2 Target coupon and Paired it with the buy 3 Hershey's Kisses, get one FREE coupon from the 12/6SS! Hershey Kisses are on sale 2 for $5, so I paid $5.50 for (4) bags of Hershey Kisses!!

Save $0.75/1 Pepperidge Farm cookies 5 oz or larger
Stack with the $1/1 coupon from here (this coupon says you have to buy a specific kind of cookie, but it's didn't beep when I used it on something different).
They had certain cookies on sale for $2.50, and that's what I used it on. So I paid $0.75 for a bag of cookies.

Buy 5 Select Snacks=$5 Target gift card
Cheez-Its, Keebler Fudge Cookies, Keebler crackers --$2 each

I didn't want (5) of any of those items, so I mixed and matched and ended up with (2) Keebler Fudge Stripe Cookies, (2) Flip Side Crackers and (1) Cheez It! I think that's the best combination to get the best deal if you don't have tons of coupons and if you dont' want (5) of everything!

Don't throw out any of the Martin's sale flyers you may have gotten in this weekends paper! Attached to the sale flyer are several "-$1.00 Coupon Doubler." That means you can use a dollar off coupon, pair it with this coupon doubler and you will get -$2.00 off!!!! Could make for some pretty great deals.

Hobby Lobby Coupon

Did you know that we (meaning people who live in South Central Pa) have a Hobby Lobby now? It's in Chambersburg, right across from Walmart on Rt. 30!!! Well, Hobby Lobby just released a great coupon: save 40% off any one regular priced item! This coupon is valid today, 12/7 through 12/12! These coupons make it easy to make your own "sale" on any item you like!

Kmart Playskool Toy Deals

I stopped over at Kmart last night and snagged 3 of the potato head Spud Buds Pets for $6.98 (plus tax). Playskook toys are b2g1 right now, and there are lots of coupons Here and on our sidebar coupon printer.

I went in last night and grabbed just a few items and didn't use any coupons (I know!!!). I had a few awesome catalinas print out, one of which was $3 off your next order when you spend $14 or more on Huggies products. What most people would assume is that $14 is sale price, but it's actually the price before MVP.

So I bought 2 packs of Huggies Jumbo @ $6.99 (regular price $10.99). I used

1 $3/$14 purchase Q

total = $2.74 per pack!!!

If you have bought baby items at Food Lion, it might be worth going in and buying a newspaper (or another small item) to see if you get one of these Q's printed!

Hands of A Child

Have you ever heard the term “Cristes maesse”? It's an old
English phrase and it means “Christ’s Mass". This is where we get the word Christmas!

This was the very first thing that we learned when we sat down to work through the Project Pack Symbols of Christmas from In The Hands Of A Child.

A project pack is a wonderful thing for homeschoolers! It is a packet full of activities and all of the lessons or resources that you need to complete them. Everything is done for the parent/teacher, and you can work through each packet knowing that your kids are going to be having fun while learning! There are so many interesting lessons included with each unit, and any of them can be tweaked to fit your child's learning level. When you have finished the packet, you're end result is a super fun lapbook that your kids will want to look at over and over again!

I was really excited to review the Symbols of Christmas pack. My kids (8 and 5) are at the age that they see the materialism of Christmas, and like so many of us they get caught up in the 'stuff' quickly. This packet was a great opportunity to learn about many of the symbols that surround us during this season and how they came to be so significant. Areas covered include Advent wreaths, Advent Calendars, Christmas Cards, Christmas Gifts, Christmas Trees, Christmas Tree Lights, Ornaments, and Santa/Saint Nicholas. I am so thankful that now we know why we use these and what the history behind each one is.

We discovered lapbooks in our first year of homeschooling and I don't know who has more fun with them--me or the kids! I struggled through quite a few lapbooks trying to compile my own graphics, crafts, and lessons. One day someone recommended Hands of a Child to me. Oh My Word!! This site has made my job so much easier! Everything is done for me, and I can trust that the lessons are accurate as well as interesting! I also love that they give detailed instructions on how to put a lapbook together and even include pictures of a completed one!

Hands of a Child has published over 200 project packs, and they will even do custom packs on request! Be sure to stop over and browse their store, and it's not too late to grab the Symbols of Christmas pack for yourself! The price is $12 for the ebook, which is a good price for such a wonderful resource.

Our lapbooks aren't quite done, but once we have them finished I will be showing you lots of pictures!
